Lochnagar is the big mountain on the Balmoral estate, and its summit, Cac Càrn Beag, is a rock tor right beside a trig point. That summit name is usually translated rather bluntly as 'small cairn of faeces'. The mountain takes its everyday name from Lochan na Gaire, 'little loch of the noisy sound', in its north-east corrie. Byron wrote the poem 'Dark Lochnagar' about it, Queen Victoria climbed it in 1848, and it's the setting for The Old Man of Lochnagar, a story first told by Charles III.
