Carn Gorm is the neat cone at the western end of the Glen Lyon horseshoe, where four ridges come together. The highest ground is a rocky outcrop just east of the summit cairn. The name means 'blue hill', though the colour may describe the dark green of its grassy slopes. Its lower slopes reach into the old Black Wood of Rannoch, and the remains of shielings by the Invervar Burn show where cattle were once taken for summer grazing.
