Sgorr Ruadh, 'the red peak', takes its name from the red Torridonian sandstone it's built from. It rises above Coire Lair near Achnashellach, alongside Beinn Liath Mhor and Fuar Tholl, and its north-west face has cliffs and terraced buttresses that draw rock climbers. The cairn sits on the edge of sheer slopes, with a wind shelter close by, and the view west takes in Maol Chean-dearg and the Torridon mountains.
