Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh is usually translated as 'peak of torment', and no summit on the northern half of Skye's Black Cuillin ridge is higher. The summit has two tops joined by a knife-edged arête, with a cairn on the higher one. The first recorded ascent was in 1870 by William Tribe and 14-year-old John Mackenzie, who went on to become Britain's first mountain guide.
