Sgurr Alasdair is the highest peak of Skye's Black Cuillin and the highest summit on any Scottish island. It takes its name from Alexander Nicolson, who was the first person known to climb it, in 1873; locally it had been known as Sgurr Biorach. The top is a narrow perch of bare rock, and even the easiest way up, by the scree of the Great Stone Chute from Coire Lagan, finishes with a scramble up the east ridge.
