Sgurr Dubh Mor, the 'big black peak', crowns the Dubh ridge, a gabbro spur running east from the main Cuillin ridge towards Loch Coruisk. Its narrow summit ridge is one of the sharpest in the Cuillin, and the true top is a rock just higher than a nearby cairn. Alexander Nicolson and Duncan MacIntyre made the first recorded ascent in 1874. Every way up involves scrambling, and the long Dubh ridge from Coruisk includes a short abseil.
