Sgurr nan Gillean, the 'peak of the young men', rises above Sligachan at the northern end of the Cuillin. Its summit is a tiny, airy platform reached only by scrambling along a narrow ridge, and even the so-called tourist route up the south-east ridge is exposed enough that parties go single file. James Forbes and Duncan Macintyre made the first recorded ascent on 7 July 1836.
