Named 'red ridge' in Welsh, Crib Goch is a knife-edged arête whose highest point is 923 m. Every route over it is a scramble in summer or a mountaineering route in winter, the easiest with a Grade 1 'bad step'. The classic east-to-west traverse leaves the Pyg Track and crosses three rock pinnacles to the grassy col of Bwlch Coch; its exposed precipices have caused several deaths, and it is also one of the wettest spots in the UK.
