Rising suddenly from a long peat bog plateau, Moel y Cerrig Duon has a conical summit at 624.5 m, its grassy top marked by a small cairn and a stake. It is a subsidiary summit of Esgeiriau Gwynion, and its south-west top, Foel y Groes, forms the watershed between the Dee, Severn and Dyfi catchments. Foel y Geifr lies to the north-east and Llechwedd Du, 3.4 km away, to the west.
