Among the Welsh 3000s, Y Garn reaches 947 m and is the tenth-highest peak in Wales. Its two sides differ sharply: the south-west slopes gently down to the Nant Peris valley, while the north-east holds the steep-sided cwms of Cwm Clyd and Cwm Cywion above Llyn Idwal. A cairn and shelter mark the top. Snow can build up on the western side from October to May, and in 2011 a walker died here when a cornice gave way.
