Arnison Crag rises directly behind Patterdale village, the end of a low ridge running out from Birks. Wainwright called it a low hill with a summit worthy of a mountain: a small rock tower with a tiny cairn. Glenamara Park, an old deer park now full of broadleaved trees, lies along its western side, and haematite was once worked on the Deepdale slopes.
