Place Fell rises steeply from the eastern shore of Ullswater, opposite Glenridding. Its broad top has a trig pillar and a cairn on two rival high points, with the true summit on a rock outcrop next to the cairn. Small tarns lie along the ridge to the north-east. At Boredale Hause, below the summit, is the tiny ruin known as the Chapel in the Hause. The summit view looks across the lake to the rough eastern faces of the Helvellyn range.
