Brae Fell is a big, grassy hill in the Northern Fells, and its large summit cairn is a landmark for miles around. The name comes from Scots and means a hillside or slope. From the boulder-strewn top the view opens north over the Solway Firth to the Scottish Borders and the northern Pennines, and large spoil heaps on the eastern slopes above Roughton Gill are left from 19th-century lead mining.
