Meal Fell is a small, stony-topped hill in the Uldale Fells, with a large stone shelter and, a short way off, a small cairn on the slightly higher ground. The writer Bill Birkett has suggested it may once have been a small hill fort, as the ground looks to have been dug away in a ring around the top. Just to the west is the pass of Trusmadoor, which Wainwright called the 'Piccadilly of sheep'.
