Great Cockup is one of the four Uldale Fells, looking across to the northern slopes of Skiddaw and out towards the Scottish Borders. Its cairned top is reached up steep slopes that can be thick with bracken. The name is thought to come from Old English for a blind valley visited by wild birds, though it's better known for the obvious joke: Denis Norden filmed here for It'll Be Alright on the Night. Rare graptolite fossils have been found on its slopes.
