Seen from Skiddaw House, Great Calva looks like a neat, steep-sided pyramid in the empty country 'Back o' Skidda'. Its top is a curving ridge with a cairn at the highest point, an old fence line, and a stone windshelter just to the east. The fell sits at the head of a big fault that runs south through the middle of the Lake District, and that gives it a long view straight down the line of Thirlmere.
