Green Crag is the highest of a cluster of rocky knolls on Birker Fell, the open moor between Eskdale and the Duddon, and its bare rock top, with a cairn close by, needs a little scrambling from the north or west. Eskdale farmers once cut peat up here, and graded paths and peat huts survive on the fellside. Wainwright saw it as the edge of fellwalking country, and from the top you can see the sea to the south.
