Seen from Hartsop, High Hartsop Dodd looks like a neat pyramid, which is why Wainwright gave it a chapter of its own, even though it's really just the north-eastern ridge of Little Hart Crag. Its top is a tiny cairn where the ridge briefly levels out, and the name comes from its place in the valley rather than its height. In 1948 the fell made the news when people tried to rescue two terriers trapped in a hole on its flank.
