Red Screes takes its name from the reddish scree that pours down its eastern face above Kirkstone Pass. The broad, stony top has a trig point with a round stone shelter beside it, and a small tarn sits a few metres to the south. From the eastern edge you look straight down on the Kirkstone Pass Inn, while Kirkstone Quarry, cut into the south-east side, has produced green slate.
