High Tove is a low point on the long, wet ridge between Borrowdale and Thirlmere, and the old bridleway from Watendlath to Armboth crosses right over it. Wainwright joked that the summit cairn made a handy seat for walkers needing to tip the water out of their boots. North of it lies the Pewits, a notoriously boggy hollow, while the Helvellyn range looks close across Thirlmere to the east.
