Raven Crag is a sheer wall of rock rising straight out of the conifers of Thirlmere Forest, right above the reservoir's dam. The top is a rocky knob with a cairn, half hidden by trees, but step to the edge of the crag and you look down on the dam and along Thirlmere end-on. On Castle Crag, one of its lower tops, are the earth ramparts of an Iron Age settlement.
