Middle Fell stands on the north side of Wastwater, steep on every side, with a cairn on a small rocky knoll at the top. From there you look across the lake to the screes of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg, up to the head of Wasdale and out towards Black Combe. Greendale Tarn sits in a narrow bowl among big boulders behind it, and its outflow, Greendale Gill, divides the fell from Seatallan.
