Low Pike is a small, rocky top on the eastern arm of the Fairfield Horseshoe, north of Ambleside, and reaching it takes a little scrambling, with a tall drystone wall running right over the highest point and a cairn beside it. Wainwright gave it a chapter of its own because the deep valleys on either side make it feel loftier than it is. Higher fells close in the view, but you get a bird's-eye look down on Ambleside.
