Seat Sandal rises above Grisedale Hause, with Grisedale Tarn, the highest big tarn in Lakeland, tucked at its foot. Its highest point is a rock on a knoll beside a ruined wall, and that same broken wall guides the steep last climb from the hause. The western flanks above Dunmail Raise are smooth grass, while the east is steep and craggy, with Gavel Crag joined to the fell by a rocky arête.
