Fairfield's top is a wide, flat, stony plateau scattered with cairns, and the highest point is an outcrop inside a stone windshelter at its western end. Beyond the edges, the north and east sides drop away into crags and corries above Deepdale. It's the high point of the Fairfield Horseshoe, the classic round from Ambleside over the ridges either side of Rydal Beck.
