Great Rigg is the long grassy rise on the western arm of the Fairfield horseshoe, between Heron Pike and Fairfield. A big cairn, named Greatrigg Man on large-scale maps, stands just below the highest rock. Rigg is the northern word for a ridge, and from the top you can count about ten lakes and tarns.
