Selside Pike is a smooth, grassy dome above the head of Swindale, and its highest point is a slight rise of embedded rocks just south of a stone windshelter. A ridge to the north-east drops to the old Mardale corpse road, used to carry the valley's dead to the nearest churchyard until 1736. Lakeland views are cut short, but the outlook east over Haweswater and Shap to the Pennines is wide open.
