Shipman Knotts is a rough, rocky fell between Kentmere and Longsleddale, and a dry-stone wall follows its ridge, zigzagging off the watershed in places. Three rocky hummocks sit east of the wall, and the middle one, with a small cairn on an outcrop, is the high point and the best spot for looking down Longsleddale. It's usually climbed on the Kentmere horseshoe, and on the Longsleddale side the ground drops steeply over Rough Crags.
