Parkhouse Hill is a steep, saw-toothed ridge in the upper Dove valley, the twin of Chrome Hill next door. Both are the remains of reefs that grew in a tropical sea around 350 million years ago, later exposed when softer shale wore away around them. On a few days in spring and autumn, watchers at Glutton Grange can see the sun set behind the summit, reappear on its northern slope and set a second time.
