Allen Crags is the rocky last knoll at the southern end of the Glaramara ridge, just above the busy path junction at Esk Hause. Of the three cairns on top, the middle one, set on rock, marks the highest point, and the view across to Great Gable is especially good. The name probably comes from Alein or Aleyn, a personal name of Breton origin that became common after the Norman Conquest.
