Esk Pike stands at the head of Eskdale, squeezed between the busy crossroads of Esk Hause and the col of Ore Gap. A small cairn sits on a rib of rock at the top, with a bigger, slightly lower cairn just to the north-east. Ore Gap gets its name from the red, iron-rich haematite in the soil, and from the summit you look straight across to the Scafells.
