Great Dodd simply means 'big round hill', and that sums it up: a smooth grassy dome, the highest of the Dodds north of Sticks Pass. There's a cairn near the top, though the highest ground is just to the south of it, and an older shelter cairn sits further south-east. There's little close-up scenery from the summit itself, but on a clear day the view reaches across the Lake District to south-west Scotland and the Pennines.
