Hen Comb is a rounded dome between Mosedale and Whiteoak Moss, cut off by bog on most sides, so dry feet are rare on the way up to the cairn on its grassy top. Lead was dug at Whiteoak Mine on the north-west slopes between 1864 and 1891, and the pit for its 40-foot waterwheel is still there. From the top you look over the Buttermere valley to the Grasmoor fells.
