Starling Dodd is a smooth, grassy dome above the conifers of Ennerdale Forest, with two cairns side by side on top. The older stone cairn once bristled with iron posts salvaged from the Ennerdale fence, and an all-metal cairn now stands beside it. Ennerdale Water is well seen from the summit, and iron was mined on the steep northern slopes until 1877.
