Lonscale Fell takes its name from Lonscale farm below it, and its top is a gentle grassy dome with a cairn on the western side. The eastern end is much more dramatic, a pointed top sometimes called Lonscale Pike, above a long line of crags over the Glenderaterra valley. Lead was mined in that valley in the 19th century, and the view south takes in Derwentwater and Thirlmere.
