Sail is a heathery dome with a small cairn, on the ridge between Causey Pike and Crag Hill. On the north side of Sail Pass a mine opened in 1848 in search of cobalt, but the vein was mostly arsenic and it was soon given up, though its levels can still be seen. From the top you look down Coledale and east to the Helvellyn range, with Bassenthwaite Lake in view.
