Outerside is a neat cone of a fell between Coledale and Stonycroft Gill, its top made up of three rocky outcrops, the westernmost being the highest. Heather covers the upper slopes, and the marshy hollow of High Moss lies just to the south. Unlike many of its neighbours it was never mined, though it looks straight down Coledale to the old Force Crag mine at the valley head, and east to the Helvellyn range.
