Heron Pike is a slight, grassy rise on Fairfield's long southern ridge, and most people cross it on the Fairfield Horseshoe between Nab Scar and Great Rigg. The cairn has gone, leaving a rocky outcrop flecked with quartz, and the view takes in Windermere, the Coniston Fells and the Central Fells. Alcock Tarn on the western slopes was dammed in the 19th century and stocked with brown trout by a Mr Alcock of Grasmere.
