Harrison Stickle is the highest of the Langdale Pikes, and its top is a little rocky crest with a cairn at either end. The word stickle means a steep hill with a rocky peak, and the name suits it, with crags towering over Stickle Tarn and Great Langdale and the deep ravine of Dungeon Ghyll on its south-west side. Neolithic people quarried greenstone below the summit to make stone axes, which were traded as far away as East Anglia.
