Sergeant Man is a rocky little cone with a small cairn on its outcrop, standing out from the grassy dome of High Raise just behind it. East of the summit the ground drops towards Codale Tarn and the head of Easedale, whose streams run down to Grasmere. Between the top and Codale Head the moor is dotted with small pools, and the south side falls steeply to Bright Beck.
