Rampsgill Head sits where three ridges meet at the northern end of the High Street range, and its grassy top is broken by a little outcropping rock. A bigger cairn stands on the brink of the north face, which falls about 550 m into Rampsgill. The Roman road over High Street passes just south-east of the summit, and westwards you look across to the Helvellyn range, with Ullswater and Brothers Water in view.
