Haystacks is a small, knobbly fell above Buttermere, with a cairn at each end of its rocky top and little tarns tucked into the hollows. It was Alfred Wainwright's favourite fell, and his ashes were scattered by Innominate Tarn, halfway along the summit ridge. The name is thought to mean 'high rocks', and from the top you look straight across to Pillar and Great Gable.
